Rhaglenni Cymraeg

Y mae’r patrwm diwylliannol Cymreig sydd wedi datblygu drwy’r canrifoedd yn cael mynegiant newydd y dyddiau hyn drwy gyfrwng teledu.

Y wefan hon yn darlunio rhai o nodweddion y rhaglenni Cymraeg a gynhyrchir gan TWW yn eu stiwdio ym Mhontcanna, Caerdydd, ar gyfer yr ardaloedd a wasanaethir gan erial trawsyrru’r Awdurdod Teledu Annibynnol yn Saint Hilari.

Cerdd a chân o Gymru

Bob mis y mae rhyw ddeng miliwn o bobl ledled Prydain yn gweld y rhaglen Gymraeg Gwlad y Gân — y gynulleidfa fwyaf a gafodd unrhyw gyfres o raglenni Cymraeg erioed.

Ivor Emmanuel

Ni bu unrhyw raglen gerddorol ar y teledu mor gyson lwyddiannus â hon.

Y mae’r corau sy’n ymddangos yn y rhaglen wedi eu ffurfio a’u hyfforddi gan Norman Whitehead, cyfarwyddwr cerdd TWW.

Lleolir y rhaglen ym mhentref dychmygol Llanteli, ac y mae’r cyfarwyddwr,

Christopher Mercer, yn gofalu am gefndir gwahanol iddi bob mis.

Ymhlith y rhaglenni cerddorol eraill a gyflwynwyd gan TWW y mae Trysor o Gân, rhaglen y cymerodd rhai o offerynwyr blaenaf Cymru ran ynddi, a Hoff Alawon a roes gyfle i gerddorion adnabyddus i ddewis eu hoff ddarnau cerddorol.

Llysgennad cerdd

Ar ol blynyddoedd o brofiad ar y llwyfan yn Llundain, enillodd Ivor Emmanuel glod mawr iddo’i hun yn rhaglenni TWW. Drwy gyfrwng y teledu annibynnol fe ddaeth yn llysgennad cerdd dros ei wlad enedigol.

Mewn canlyniad i’w lwyddiant eithriadol yn canu gyda Chôr Plant Pontcanna, cafodd ef a’r plant eu dewis i roi detholiad o Wlad y Gân yn y Perfformiad Amrywiaethol Brenhinol yn 1960.

Amser Te gyda Myfanwy Howell

Bob wythnos er pan ddechreuodd TWW deledu rhaglenni (gydag ychydig eithriadau prin) y mae Myfanwy Howell wedi cyflwyno’r rhaglen gylchgrawn Amser Te. Erbyn hyn y mae’r rhaglen hon wedi mynd allan dros 130 o weithiau. Y mae’r rhaglen yn apelio’n arbennig iawn at y gwragedd, ac y mae’r llu mawr o lythyron a ddaw i law yn cynnwys nifer sylweddol oddi wrth bobl y tu allan i Gymru. Ar wahân i eitemau am arddio a gwaith llaw, eitemau cerddorol a sgyrsiau gyda phobl adnabyddus a diddorol, un o nodweddion mwyaf poblogaidd y rhaglen yw’r cyfarwyddiadau coginio a roddir bob wythnos. Y mae’r rhain wedi eu cyhoeddi.

Genedigol o Sir Fôn yw Myfanwy Howell. Y mae’n ynad heddwch ac yn enwog drwy Gymru am ei gwaith cyhoeddus.

TWW yn arloesi mewn dysgu Cymraeg

Un o raglenni arloesi TWW oedd y gyfres Camau Cyntaf a gyflwynwyd gan Miss Cassie Davies, sef arbrawf mewn dysgu iaith drwy gyfrwng teledu.

Dyma’r tro cyntaf erioed i unrhyw gwmni teledu wneud y defnydd arbennig hwn o’i adnoddau. Defnyddiwyd llawer o wahanol fathau o ddulliau dysgu modern gan Miss Davies yn ystod y gyfres hon. Un o Arolygwyr Ysgolion Ei Mawrhydi ydoedd hi cyn ymddeol.

Y mae cyfres bellach yn cael ei pharatoi ar hyn o bryd.

Dyma a ddywed Miss Cassie Davies:

“Bwriad y gyfres gyntaf hon oedd rhoi ychydig wybodaeth o’r taith i’r rhai nad ydynt yn siarad Cymraeg, cynorthwyo’r rhai sy’n deall ychydig i ychwanegu at eu geirfa, a chadw diddordeb y rhai sydd eisoes yn medru’r iaith yn rhugl.”

I ieuenctid Cymru

Paratowyd llawer o raglenni Cymraeg gan TWW yn arbennig ar gyfer y genhedlaeth ifanc.

Cafwyd cyfres werthfawr iawn ar gyfer disgyblion sydd ar fedr gadael yr ysgol, sef Dewis Gyrfa, a gyflwynwyd gan Mr. Jenkin Jones. Ynddi ymddangosodd arbenigwyr mewn llawer maes.

Yn ddiweddar cafwyd cyfres yn dwyn yr enw Colegau Cerdd, yn rhoi llwyfan i fyfyrwyr Cymreig sydd ar hyn o bryd yn astudio yn y gwahanol golegau cerdd. Bu nifer o raglenni ieuenctid dan ofal Mr. Hywel D. Robens yn boblogaidd iawn, yn arbennig felly y gystadieuaeth holi rhwng siroedd Cymru — Am y Gorau. Yn y gyfres Ar Brawf rhoddwyd gwobrau i’r myfyrw’yr llwyddiannus mewn prawf i bwyso a mesur gan bwy oedd y bersonoliaeth orau.

Felly y mae’r cyfrwng mynegiant electronig newydd — teledu annibynnol — yn edrych i’r dyfodol.

Problemau ac opiniynau yng Nghymru heddiw

Nid oes dull mwy uniongyrch o drosglwyddo gwybodaeth a barn na thrwy gyfrwng teledu, ac y mae TWW yn enwog erbyn hyn am rymuster a choethder eu rhaglenni trafod.

Yn y gyfres Pawb â’i Farn bu tri Chymro adnabyddus yn trafod pwnc o ddiddordeb arbennig bob wythnos, gyda John Eilian yn y gadair, ac mewn cyfres arall, Gŵr Gwadd, bu panel o dair merch yn holi rhai o wŷr a gwragedd amlycaf y genedl.

Y mae Mr. Raymond Edwards yn un arall o gadeiryddion llithrig a deallus rhaglenni TWW.

Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Frenhinol Cymru 1960

Cafwyd cyfres arbennig o raglenni bob dydd Gwener, dan yr enw Tw’r Ŵyl i baratoi’r ffordd ar gyfer Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Frenhinol 1960 a gynhelir yng Nghaerdydd.

Yn ystod wythnos yr Eisteddfod bydd ‘stiwdio ar olwynion’ newydd TWW, sydd wedi costio £100,000, gerllaw’r pafiliwn mawr i recordio’r prif ddigwyddiadau bob dydd ar gyfer stiwdio gynfas TWW.

Bydd rhaglenni arbennig hefyd yn yr hwyr, nos Lun, nos Fercher a nos Wener, yn ystod wythnos yr Eisteddfod, yn ogystal â darllediadau am ymweliad y Frenhines.

I’r miliynau sy’n derbyn y teledu annibynnol, bydd TWW yn rhoi darlun digymar o’r wythnos bwysig hon ym mywyd Cymru.

Ymhliihy rhai sy’n gysylltiedig â rhaglenni Cymraeg TWW y mae: Wyn Roberts, Dorothy Williams, Owen Griffiths, Christopher Mercer ac Emyr Edwards.

The Welsh programmes from TWW

The cultural pattern of Wales, which has emerged over the centuries, now has added expression through the modern medium of television.

This website illustrates some aspects of the Welsh programmes produced by TWW at their Pontcanna Studios, Cardiff, for viewers served by the St. Hilary transmitter of the Independent Television Authority.

Music and song from Wales

Each month the Welsh programme Land of Song is seen throughout Great Britain by some ten million viewers — the largest audience ever obtained by a Welsh programme series. It is the most consistently successful musical programme ever presented on television.

Ivor Emmanuel
The groups of singers who appear in the programme were formed and trained by TWW musical director Norman Whitehead and, with the programme centred on the imaginary village of Llantelly, director Christopher Mercer places the show in a different setting each month.

Other musical programmes presented by TWW have included Trysor o Gân, an intimate programme featuring leading Welsh instrumentalists and singers and Hoff Alawon, in which distinguished guests selected their favourite music.

An ambassador of song

After varied experience in the London theatre, Ivor Emmanuel gained a significant personal success in TWW programmes. On independent television he has become an ambassador of song for the land of his birth.

Following the particular success of his work with the Pontcanna Children’s Choir, he and the children were selected to appear in the 1960 Royal Variety Performance in an excerpt from Land of Song.

Amser Te with Myfanwy Howell

Each week since TWW went on the air, Myfanwy Howell has, with only rare breaks, introduced the miscellany programme Amser Te. More than 130 editions have been presented.

It is a programme with a very definite feminine appeal and the large post bag includes many letters from people outside Wales.

Apart from gardening, handicrafts, musical items and interviews with well known and interesting personalities, the programme has become especially well known for the recipes which end each edition. These have been published.

Born in Anglesey, Mrs. Howell is a magistrate and well known throughout Wales for her public work.

TWW pioneer “Teaching Welsh”

A pioneer Welsh programme by TWW was the series Camau Cyntaf presented by Miss Cassie Davies as an experiment in using television for teaching a language.

This was the first time, anywhere, that a TV company had made this particular use of its resources. Many different modern teaching techniques were used during this series by Miss Davies, who was formerly H.M. Inspector of Schools. A further series is in course of preparation.

Miss Cassie Davies says:

“The aim of this first series was to give non-Welsh speaking people some knowledge of the language, to help those who have a little knowledge to brush up their vocabulary and to help maintain the interest of those who speak the language fluently.”

For the Youth of Wales

Many of the Welsh programmes series have been designed specially for the younger generation by the TWW Welsh Department.

A well illustrated series on careers, Dewis Gyrfa, open to school leavers of all ages, was conducted by Mr. Jenkin Jones and featured acknowledged experts in many fields.

Colegau Cerdd has currently featured Welsh students at present studying in music colleges. Many other programmes compered by Hywel D. Roberts have been popular, especially the inter-county quiz Am y Gorau. The series Ar Brawf awarded prizes to those students who passed a cross examination designed to test personality.

As the young electronic medium of communication, independent television looks to the future.

Problems and opinions in Wales to-day

There is no more immediate way of communicating information and opinion than by television, and TWW have become well known for the vigour and style of their informative programmes. Among the Welsh series presented have been Pawb â’i Farn when each week three prominent Welshmen, under the chairmanship of John Eilian, discussed topics of special interest. In another series, Gŵr Gwadd, a panel of three women interviewed each week a leading figure in Welsh life.

Mr. Raymond Edwards is another fluent and assured chairman of TWW programmes.

The Royal National Eisteddfod 1960

A special series of Friday programmes, Tua’r Ŵyl, has prepared the way for the TWW coverage of the i960 Royal National Eisteddfod being held in Cardiff. During the week of the Eisteddfod, the new £100,000 TWW ‘studio on wheels’ will be near to the main pavilion recording the highlights of the events each day and servicing the TWW marquee studio.

Special evening programmes will also be seen on the Monday, Wednesday and Friday of Eisteddfod Week as well as broadcasts around the visit of H.M. The Queen.

To the millions served by independent television, TWW will present an unrivalled coverage of this important week in the life of Wales.
