✎ 18 years of Queer as Folk

Tonight marks 18 years since the first episode of Russell T Davies’s eight-part drama series Queer as Folk went out on Channel Four.

The series was groundbreaking: the first programme on mainstream British television to show gay life warts-and-all. It was watched by straight people as well as LGBT+ people and helped change minds and hearts on the subject of LGBT+ rights in the UK.

It was also, in turns, screamingly funny, exquisitely discomforting and heart-rending – everything we’ve come to expect from the laptop of Russell T Davies.

If you’ve never seen it, it’s on All4 right now: go watch.
