Global Radio to reduce local news output and outsource travel reports

Why can’t company PR press releases really say what they mean?

Instead of “Global said the aim was to create a significant national news centre providing a more professional news service across the group”, it’s more like “Global wants to replace most of its local radio stations with a small number of national stations”.

For the time being Global has to do this sort of thing by ‘stealth’ because Ofcom hasn’t totally relaxed the requirement for local radio stations to provide some form of local content (not yet, anyway), but you can bet that Global will attempt to complete such a transition publicly at some point in the future with one or more of its brands.

After all, Charles Allen is no stranger to dodging things that are local.
