Seems strange to imagine, but yes we live in a world where former kids TV presenter Peter Simon can get 1 million viewers on a Saturday night for flogging chunky necklaces, odd globes and dodgy country music compilation CDs on a digital-only shopping channel – and yet breakfast TV can only muster a quarter of that.
