In addition, we would like to offer our very special thanks to all the former staff of Associated- Rediffusion and Rediffusion, and their associated companies, without whom this site would have been completely impossible. Thanks to you all for your efforts in ‘Giving London the Best of All Television’, 1955–68.

Copies of Programmes

IMPORTANT: We regret that we cannot assist visitors in obtaining copies of programmes and related broadcast material. However, we know someone who (possibly) can…

The Rediffusion library is now a part of the National Film Archive and is held by the British Film Institute. A great deal of material can be viewed by arrangement for private research purposes. For further information, visit http://www.bfi.org.uk/filmtvinfo/researchers/

The BFI staff are extremely helpful, and if you contact them and give them as much information as you can, they may be able to trace the Rediffusion programme you are looking for. If so, you can generally visit the BFI, off Tottenham Court Road in London, and view the programme. For copyright reasons, they cannot generally make copies for you. However, if you or a member of your family, for example, appeared in a programme and the BFI can locate it, you may be able to obtain permission from Archbuild (see Programme producers and researchers below) for the BFI to make a copy for you.

We strongly recommend that you make your enquiries this way round – go to the BFI first, then if they trace the programme, talk to Archbuild if necessary. Don’t go straight to Archbuild as they do not have the resources to trace a programme for you.

It may also be possible to view your choice of Rediffusion programming at the TV Heaven exhibit at the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television in Bradford. To search their database to see if the programme you want is available, click here.

Programme Producers & Researchers

Again, start with the BFI if necessary to trace a programme so that you make a licensing enquiry knowing exactly what you want to license. Commercial rights to existing Associated-Rediffusion and Rediffusion television programmes are held by the following, who should be contacted regarding any commercial applications, such as rebroadcasting of entire programmes or clips:

Archbuild Ltd
Greenland Place
115-123 Bayham Street
London NW1 0AG

Enquiries are handled by David Osterley: davido@palan.com
