Channel 3 North East Ident

By Andrew Bowden

From the Transdiffusion archive

Sorry? What number is that? I can’t quite see it - it is after all, very small…

The much hated Channel 3 North East ident arrived in 1996, amid rumours that the ident was designed in an afternoon by a team at Yorkshire Television. Whilst we don’t know the truth of this particular rumour, the new ident didn’t exactly show much imagination.

The re-brand, instigated by the company’s new masters in Leeds, was supposed to see the end of the Tyne Tees name on screen, but it never managed to completely leave, appearing as it did on the bottom of the screen, as well as being frequently used by the announcers.
