About this person

Richard Elen entered the recording industry in the early Seventies with Island Records and went on to become Chief Engineer and Studio Manager at legendary music library KPM's studios in Denmark Street, London, in a recording career that continues, in a rather more laid-back fashion, today.

After working on the 'alternative technology' magazine Undercurrents in the mid-Seventies, and starting the magazine Sound International in 1978, he became editor of the world's leading recording journal, Studio Sound, in 1981 and began the magazine Broadcast Sound.

Following a decade in the United States working in advertising, PR and marketing, he returned to the UK in early 2003 to work as Head of Creative Services at Meridian Audio Ltd in Huntingdon.

Today, Richard is well-known as a writer, lecturer, industry commentator and occasional broadcaster on surround sound, digital audio, the history of broadcasting and related topics.

In August 2004 he became Editor-in-Chief of Transdiffusion.

A man should never be ashamed to own that he has been in the wrong, which is but saying in other words that he is wiser today than he was yesterday. – Alexander Pope, 1688 -1744 C.E.
