The
forerunner to ITN's long-running 'News At Ten' was 'Dateline'. Dateline covered
(usually) only one story, in a greater depth than could be managed by the
bulletins of the day.
Running
Monday to Thursday, it was usually preceded by a 2-minute round-up of the
headlines. On Friday, there was 'Roving Reports' giving 25 minutes of
international news, followed by Dateline Westminister with political discussion.
The
night-time news bulletin, Dateline, Roving Reports and Dateline Westminister
were 'merged' and given a permanent time-slot when ITN introduced 'News At Ten'
in 1967.
