The local
listing magazine from Tyne Tees, The Viewer. These smaller magazines were
largely edited in London, with a small 'editorial office' in a corner of the ITV
company's studios for liaison between the programmers and publishers.
The
producer of The Viewer (and the almost identical Look Westward) was The Dickens
Press, a company that would lose out tremendously when it lost its 'franchises'
to the new ITP TVTimes in September 1968.
The
programme being advertised on the cover is ATV London's 'The Big Show' with
comedian Dave Allen introducing Frank Fontaine, Frank Ifield, Ted Kavanagh Irish
Dancers and other such B list entertainers. ATV London was obviously
already making its exit from expensive and popular weekend fare by this point.
