1966 was the peak of ITV's
golden age. A roll-over of contracts in 1963/64 had given the system much
needed stability, and with the next contract round a year away, the companies
pulled out all the stops to produce an unbeatable programme line-up.
The Northern TVTimes is
in its element here, with popular television stars Peggy Mount and Sid James on
the cover advertising a new Saturday night sitcom from ATV London - George and
the Dragon - as well as smaller lines plugging some of the bigger programmes for
this week. When ITV was doing well for popular programmes, the TVTimes
also did well, as it caused an increase in sales.
