ITV's promised new world
wasn't necessarily of benefit to viewers straight away. Leaving aside the
strike that felled the network early on, viewers found that that ITA had taken
away a lot of their favourite programmes.
The major quiz shows -
'Double Your Money' and 'Take Your Pick' - disappeared with Rediffusion.
Worse, ATV's Palladium show on Sunday nights also disappeared and was replaced
by upmarket arts features and drama. LWT was sure this was what the
viewers wanted, confining the popular material to the edges of schedule to allow
highbrow to dominate.
This leaves the TVTimes
with little to promote except 'Thingumybob', as everything else is unwatchable -
and unwatched.
