More Hope than reality from
the TVTimes for this week. ITV's new era had been marked by industrial
discontent, at both the old companies thanks to problems with reconstruction,
and at the new, as workforce and management tried to get to know one another.
A series of strikes had
knocked out parts of the network for hours or even whole days since the changes
had happened. But a typical snowball effect ensued, as strikes at
Yorkshire and Thames spread to LWT's first weekend. By the second weekend,
LWT was again hit, and one by one each ITV company saw walkouts or lockouts.
A national emergency
service followed, run by the recently defunct ABC and ATV London. But from
the TVTimes, you'd never know anything was amiss.
