With the
initial pattern of ITV involving 3 large areas each with two companies and a
scattering of regional companies on the fringes, the main editions of the
schedule magazine in the 1960s were simply "TVTimes London", "TV
World
Midlands" and "TVTimes North".
But in
1968, the changes in the contracts did away with the old system. Whilst
London retained two companies, the midlands slimmed down to just one, and the
northern region was sliced in two.
Prior to
the changes, Granada and ABC Weekend had served the entire region of Lancashire,
Cheshire and Yorkshire. After the changes, Granada survived with an
increased number of days, but lost the area east of the Pennines.
This
magazine marks the last ABC weekend, and the first week of Granada as a
northwest-only company. As viewers were used to the idea of Granada
serving the entire former region, "west of the Pennines" is added to
remind viewers not to pick up the wrong edition!
