One of the
signs that a programme isn't working is excessive tinkering with the peripheral
parts of the format (in modern US television slang, this is known as
"Jumping the Shark", the point were tinkering with a dying show
actually kills it).
'ABC Club'
starts life here on Saturday afternoon. A week later, the programme has
been moved to Sunday at 4.30, with a change in name to 'ABC TV Club'. The
programme has also moved up in its age range and now has Bill Allenby as a
presenter.
A week
later, and the programme is now called 'ABC TV Youth Club". A week
after that, it has gone, the slot now filled with a 15-minute sitcom and a
puppet series, 'The Adventures of Noddy'.
