Another
programme that didn't prosper on ATV. It would be very difficult for any
company to get music programming just right over the next few years, as the
economics of television meant that the entire audience - mum and dad as well as
son and daughter - needed to be entertained. A programme like this, aimed
at the children was fine, but any grown-up programming on the opposition network
meant the set was turned over to what dad wanted to watch.
Additionally,
pitching the programme was difficult. It was very easy to talk down to the
audience - such as pretending the show was set in a shop, for instance - and
therefore lose them immediately. Probably only "Oh Boy!" and
"Thank your lucky stars" from ABC, "Ready Steady Go" from
A-R and "Top of the pops" from the BBC ever managed it get it right.
