Top-slice Licence Fee money to save CITV?
Broadcast is reporting that the media committee has recommended that a portion of the licence fee be used to fund children's programming.
The problem with this is simple. Funding that has been assigned to a public service operation, should not be reassigned to an operation that is active divesting itself of its own public service commitments. Never mind the fact that it can and does raise plenty of its own money from commercials and sponsorship, just the fact that it doesn't want to fund the programming itself, is enough of a disqualifier in my book.
