The Register: ITV favourite for Friends Reunited buy-out
Why is ITV so interested in Friends Reunited to the extent that it has bid £150m for it? Surely local broadband TV services aren't worth *that* much, especially as ITV itself has recently displayed a remarkable reluctance relating to anything that's even the slightest bit regional?
The minor success of the recent broadband news TV trial may have been encouraging for ITV, but Friends Reunited crucially contains not only a massive number of potential ITV viewers but also a large dating agency and genealogy resource to play with as well; perfect raw material for several more series of Surprise Surprise and Blind Date-style programming.
So signing up to Friends Reunited might entail more than just an old friend on the doorstep but an ITV camera crew as well. Pass me the sick bag...
