Richard "Twice Nightly" Whiteley. A TV legend dies.

BBC News is reporting the death of Channel 4 and Yorkshire Television presenter Richard Whitely, who was nicknamed "Twice Nightly" for regularly appearing on both Countdown and Calendar on the same day. He was 61.

Legend is a word that is so overused, but Richard Whiteley is so deserving of it. A journalist par excellence, his incisive journalistic sense meant he had the ability to get the story no-one else could, such as interviewing Margaret Thatcher in the immediate aftermath of the Brighton Bomb. Everyone though will remember him for the bumbling, genial game show host, that he so carefully crafted in complete contrast to the sharp, finely honed journalist who presented Calendar on Yorkshire Television.

A genuine talent, who made it look so easy, and yet, seen as a charming old friend by millions. He will be greatly missed
