Poacher turns Gamekeeper
Media Guardian: Who's in the frame for Robinson's job?
"It's astonishing that the BBC could find no one amongst its vast army of journalists deemed good enough to be political editor and have poached back someone they failed to spot three years ago when he was under their very noses."
The words of ITV News editor-in-chief David Mannion, speaking about the fact that Nick Robinson is to return to the BBC to replace Andrew Marr.
And of course it should be said that it's quite frankly astonishing that ITV News producer ITN couldn't promote internally back in 2002 when they poached Robinson from the BBC in the first place. Or indeed in back 2000 when they poached John Sergent from the same place.
So who will be the next ITV News Political Editor? Here's MediaBlog's suggestions to ITV. John Pienaar and Mark Mardell. They're both from the BBC so should fit the bill perfectly. Then in a few years time, the Beeb can poach them back and ITV can moan about Auntie 'not recognising talent' again.
