Maximising production efficiencies

Media Guardian.co.uk: ITV job losses to top 1000

The cost of the merger of Carlton and Granada is a depressing one.

By 2005 there will be no networked production in Birmingham, Newcastle, Nottingham or Southampton. 1000 people will have lost their jobs as ITV plc races to consolidate its production bases in London with a few outposts in places like Manchester and Leeds, and turns its back on its 50 year heritage of production from across the country.

Still as John Cresswell, Chief Operating Officer for Granada Production says, "We're tackling the overhead base to maximise production efficiencies". No doubt the 1000 people who are that "overhead base" will be happy he's put it so politely.
