Sun Hill Saved

Since The Bill ended earlier this year, it's studios in South West London have been rather quiet, as I wrote about in my recent article, The Bill Stops Here.

The front of the fictional Sun Hill Police Station

One of the big questions locally was what would happen to the substantial site which sits on an industrial estate in the London Borough of Merton.

Due to the size of the premises, many in the local press initially believed the former wine warehouse would be demolished to make way for several new units, however at the beginning of the month news quietly slipped out that Freemantle Media have sold the site and contents for £5m to a company who intend to commercially exploit the building's purpose built sets.

TV producers have been able to hire the former Sun Hill which includes the former Sun Hill police station, its custody suites, prison sets, a court room, hospital rooms and more, as well as the backlot. Even the former Bill costumes are part of the deal and will be available for hire.

All of which means that whilst Sun Hill has shut up shop, its familiar sets may well be appearing on the TV screen once more in one form or other.
