Crocodile shock

No this isn't a post about Steve Irwin (and he isn't in the above picture), but Sky Three tonight decided in their infinite wisdom to plaster "Robbie On The Road: We Are Not Alone" across the top of the screen instead of simply "Robbie On The Road".

Or much better still, there should be no text at all displayed during programmes.

Whilst there would be howls of protest if this sort of thing happened on primetime BBC One, it's unlikely that Sky would be troubled by the handful of complaints it's likely to receive as a result, since presumably it has weighed up the promotional benefits of using such text versus the potential irritation factor.

The simple solution would be for nobody to watch "Robbie On The Road: We Are Not Alone", but the bulk of these sort of channels' undiscerning audience is unlikely to be bothered by this sort of thing. But you should be bothered, since the whole point of the promotional text is that it gets noticed therefore it has to be made intrusive.
