Media Guardian: ITV seeks help from above for the God slot
So ITV wants cash to keep on doing its public service bit.
Now if ITV was in a pure digital enviroment, and didn't have it's lucrative analogue licenses, I'd say (and have said), why burden it with public service requirements if no one else has to?
But we're not in this world, and ITV does have the secure luxury of a still lucrative license on analogue, as well as favourable carriage rights on DTT, prominent EPG positions on cable and satellite and more.
For every shackle comes a benefit, and if ITV doesn't want the shackles, then it has simply to divest itself of the luxuries. The regulators should stand for nothing less.
