Ratings Review: W/e 27 February 2005

Well, after a couple of weeks where the freely available ratings didn't show anything special, this week has proved rather different. First of all, Sky One has had a breakout week. After being stuck around 1.9 for ages, this week it manages a 2.2 share. Now whether this is a result of one or two good performers, or whether the schedule is actually settling down and attracting new viewers, I cannot really say. Suffice to say, from a personal standpoint, the inclusion of the US versions of Entertainment Tonight, as well as the new UK version, have brought me back to a channel that for a while, I barely saw anything of. But we will have to wait and see whether this breakout week, can turn into consistant ratings.

On a related note, the former timeshift channel of Sky One, Sky Mix, has also peaked this week at 0.6. Until now, timeshift channels have been notoriously poor performers. But now, both Sky Mix and UK Gold +1 are both scoring 0.5 shares or better. Timeshift versions of UK Style and Living TV are also good performers right now, and I can't help but think that something that was done as a cheap way of trying to protect your ratings in an ever expanding channel market, may now be doing what it set out to do.

This week, ITV2 tops the multi-channel ratings with a 2.7, followed by Sky 1 and Sky Sports 1, both with 2.2. CBeebies comes 4th with a 1.6 share, followed by UKTV Gold with 1.3, ITV3 with 1.2, Living TV with 1.0, Hallmark with 0.9, and Sky Sports 2, Sky Sports News, BBC3 and E4 all scoring 0.8 share. The worst performers this week in therms of weekly reach are TWC Reloaded with 8,000 viewers, Get Lucky TV with 61,000, Teletext Holidays with 72,000, Sky Travel Shop with 73,000, Film Four +1 with 92,000 and Soundtrack Channel with 96,000.
