ITV vs. Channel 4

ITV and Channel 4 put in bids for Freeview slot

On parity alone, Channel 4 ought to be given this spare Freeview slot - made possible courtesy of technical improvements - by default, since ITV already has four channels (two rubbish, two not-quite-as-rubbish) and Channel 4 only has three (that's including More4, and a free-to-air E4 may have to move away from Top Up TV). And the last thing that Freeview needs is a gaming channel, even if it does make money.

This of course represents a temporary setback for all the US media giants who wanted to cash in on Freeview's success; they will probably now have to wait for the analogue switchoff (which won't be too long) for another chance. And Sit-up TV will also have another opportunity to bid again...
