BBC shows Changing Rooms the door
The recent high profile failure of ITV's "The Block" helped to underline the fact that the love affair with makeover shows seems to be well and truly over, and although some are appropriating the decline in interest with the recent slowdown in the property market, it's likely that viewers have just got bored with watching other people gasping with disbelief at pink walls with gold decorations.
Don't get me wrong - Changing Rooms is in my opinion one of the best shows of its type and was still superior to the various cheap imitations that it spawned, but the format has run its course and it's now time for something new to take its place. A principal reason why Changing Rooms was so enduring was the fact that it employed people who really knew a thing or two about design (such as Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen) as opposed to someone who was just photogenic.
Of course what will be interesting is what will happen next, but whether people will be just as interested in programmes concerning "money and family relationships" remains to be seen.
