BBC Charter Review - Your BBC, Your Say
It has not received a vast amount of attention, but the fact is that not only is BBC Charter Review taking place, you can also take part in it, by making your views known at the BBC Charter Review website, sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
As you are reading this, you probably do have some views on broadcasting and the BBC, and in the light of recent developments the Corporation, how it is run and what it does, have come to the forefront.
Now's the time to take part in the public consultation phase of Charter Review, initially by reading the material available (a short leaflet or a multi-page consultation document, downloadable as PDFs). The themes presented include:
The BBC today
Publicly-funded services & functions
Commercial services
Paying for the BBC
Organisation & infrastructure
Governance, regulation & constitution
Accountability
You can then write your response and send it by email to bbccharterreview@culture.gsi.gov.uk or by post to an address given on the site.
There's even a quickie form you can fill in online if you don't have the time to write a detailed response. Responses are published online unless you request otherwise.
The BBC is such a central part of media life in Britain that you're bound to have some comments on how it should be run and what it should be doing after 2006. But don't wait around: this phase of on-line consultation ends on March 31st!
