Another sad loss, leaving behind a legacy of happy memories. My condolences to her loved ones.

Sadly its goodbye to Victoria Wood, after Ronnie Corbett, Paul Daniels, Frank Kelly and Terry Wogan.

Sadly when the BBC News Channel make 2016- We Remember its going to be quite a full programme.

Victoria Wood was one of the few successes that came from talent shows. New Faces produced Lenny Henry, the late Marti Caine. (think of Jane McDonald whio is a similar act). . Showaddywaddy got five years of fame. I have to mention Jim Davidson against my better judgement.

Victoria Wood reminded me of Jake Thackray who also wrote comic songs. He also returned to his maker relatively young. In fact one of the panellists on New Faces did mention Thackray’s name in passing.. But Woods fame was to be the greater and longer lasting. RIP

As Victoria’s elder brother, I was one of her greatest fans and in awe of her huge talent. I don’t know of any other individual who had such a wide range of talents and who made a success of all of them: singer-songwriter, stand-up, tv performer, scriptwriter, playwright, superb comic and serious actor, producer, director. As an author and biographer with 19 books to my credit, I have been proud to write the story of my sister’s life; “Victoria Wood Comedy Genius – Her Life and Work”. I am also sponsoring a statue of Victoria to be put up in our home town of Bury, on similar lines to the one of Eric Morecambe in his home town.
