Becoming joint chief announcer in 1993 (alongside Bill Steel), Kathy Secker was a popular announcer during her two stints with the station.

Joining the station in 1976, Kathy was also the first announcer back on the air waves on Tyne Tees after the 1979 ITV strike. She left the station in 1985, and during that time did ads for the North East Coop movement before returning to Tyne Tees in 1990.

In 1993, she became joint-chief announcer with Bill Steel in 1993, shortly after the Yorkshire Television takeover. It was not much of a reign however, with most of the Newcastle based staff slowly disappearing as more and more came from Leeds.

In the end, the axe fell on the Newcastle based department, and Kathy moved to the news team. For six months in 1996 she presented the short lived ‘Tonight’ programme, before becoming a news reader. She finally left the station in 1998, and presented the Sunday Dedications on BBC Radio Newcastle, 2-5pm on Sundays.

She died in December 2015.

Saddened to hear of the death of Kathy Secker.
I worked with her on Hospital Radio long before she joined TTTv.
